An ethnographic picture book about a Guatemalan girl living with her family in a cottage in a small village in the mountains of western Guatemala. She goes to school but is not making enough progress in her studies because she spends all of her time doing chores for her family.

The story is fictional, but it is a realistic one of a family living in poverty. It is reminiscent of stories told by our grandparents about their years in primary school. The book has nice ethnographic illustrations showing detail of life in the village.
